Girls+Varsity+Soccer+Makes+MLA+History

The MLA Girl’s Varsity Soccer team had a historic season this year, going 24-2-0 with a one goal loss to Walter Payton in city playoffs and a one goal lass to IC Catholic Prep in the State playoffs. The team won 1st Division North for the first time ever to move up to the highest division, Premier, next year. The team also won the IHSA Regionals Championship and the CPS Windy City Cup Championship, all with just 500 kids in our high school.

Award Winnders: Ruby Robles scored 41 goals and had 25 assists (All City, All State, Midfield, Senior), Crystal Gutierrez had 48 goals and 17 assists (All City, All Sectional Forward, Sophomore), Ivette Herrera scored 27 goals and had 15 assists (All City, All Sectional Junior, Defender), and Valerie Betancourt only gave up 13 goals in 26 games (All City, All Sectional Goalie, Junior).

Ruby Robles (Governer’s State), Lisbeht Sanchez (Governor’s State), Yulisa Avilez (Concordia), and Maricarmen Vinalay (Truman) are all playing in college next year.

None of these accomplishments could have happened without Coach Tipre.  Coach Tipre was voted IHSA Soccer Person of the Year for Marine Leadership’s section of the state during the boy’s season in the fall.  This spring also marked his 100th win while coaching girl’s varsity soccer.
